BYTOWN VOICES  2021 WINTER-SPRING SEASON

Bytown Voices is pleased to announce its 2021 Winter-Spring Online Season so returning and new members can continue to enjoy singing while COVID-19 gathering restrictions for choirs are in place. The program will be offered online using the ZOOM platform.

Program Details

We have opted for this two-step approach so that we can respond to any positive changes regarding our ability to gather in the spring. While we expect little change to public health recommendations in the early months of 2021, we are hopeful it will be safe to gather in person sometime in the spring. We have so much missed singing together in the same room.

The two sessions, Winter and Spring, are distinct and independent. Choristers will only need to register for the winter session at this time.

There is no need to commit to the spring session yet. There are too many unknowns but we hope to have a better idea by March.

We continue to welcome new members. Part of the joys of choral singing is getting to know your fellow choristers. During the pandemic this has been a challenge but even online, the time before the rehearsal and during the sectional practices does provide some opportunities for social interaction.

E-doors to the online Winter Session rehearsals open at 7:15 each Tuesday and practice will start sharp at 7:30 pm. The rehearsal will last for 75 minutes and will consist of :
- 15 minutes physical and vocal warm-up
-  40-minute sectional rehearsals (SATB) with professional musicians leading each section. Sectional practices use Zoom’s ‘breakout room’ feature.
- a final 20 minute plenary session where we put the music together.
We use pre-recorded tracks to accompany members' singing in the plenary  sessions.
Program content will include a mix of styles and time periods, and will add some unison singing likely from the classical and musical theatre repertoires.

There will be a virtual choir production of one of the musical selections: Old Lady Rose. Participation in this activity is optional and members may prefer to just participate in the weekly rehearsals .
Technical advice about how to contribute to the recording will be available.

Sectional leaders above l-r:  Risa Tonita, Lyndsay Bolden Gowing, Joan Fearnley and Carla Klassen

Registration and Fee Payment for the Winter session opens on December 21, 2020.
